children of category list menu items

children of category list menu items

Hi,

I am having a small problem with my template rule for children of category list menu items.

I have the template rule for the (category list) menu item set to 'include menu items' - but not the 'include children' option, as the menu item is a category list with a special template.

I then set the category which the menu item is pointing to to the template for the actual content items, but the content items are still displaying the menu item (category list) template when clicked through the link on the category list page, not the template assigned via rule for the category.

these articles need to show the template which is assigned to their category via  template rule.

your help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: children of category list menu items

Hi,

When you click on a menu item for a category list of articles, then click on one of the articles, technically you are still on the original menu item. You can see this on many templates by the fact that the menu item is still highlighted when you are on that article view. It's both a benefit and a pain in Joomla...

So, when you specify that a template should be applied to a menu item, it's being applied to both the category view AND all the articles "beneath" it. The articles are not beneath it in the sense of menu hierarchy (i.e. they are not children of the menu). They are simply a different "page type" within the same menu item.

Here's what to do:
- simply select the "Page Type" of "Content Category (blogstyle)" or whichever one is appropriate for your site, as well as choosing the appropriate menu item. Then the template will only be triggered when the page is both (i) on the right menu item, and (ii) showing the category view, not the article.

Cheers,
Stephen
